KRISTEN COOK - SARAH JANE MONTGOMERY.jpeg

I guess you could say my professional story started in building nine at RMIT University in 2005, where I completed a Bachelor of Communication (Advertising - Creative). Since then I have worked predominantly in the marketing and PR space in the beauty, fashion and medical industries.

After landing myself an internship at GRAZIA magazine in London post-graduation, I had my very first aha moment! This experience gave me the push I needed to step out on my own and pursue my passion to write and create. And so, She is, Sarah Jane was born. In its infancy, it was purely a hobby while I continued to work. The success that followed was just a bonus as I genuinely enjoyed it. From a branding perspective, I totally regret that title. It led me down a slippery slope of what to share and how much to share. This became increasingly difficult to navigate over the years - particularly after the loss of my second daughter, Charlotte, in 2017. In 2021 I separated from my husband of 10 years, which too takes its toll when your followers/readers have a certain expectation of sharing your life online - as wanky as that sounds. So as I said, TBC and watch this space.

In the early years of SISJ, I worked tirelessly to build a body of work that would inspire and guide others, and this led to some wonderful opportunities that I am so grateful for. I was represented by Roxy Jacenko from The Ministry of Talent for nearly six years, arguably Australia’s driving force of talent management at the time. The Urban List Melbourne listed my blog as one of the top beauty blogs and you could say I had a pretty significant following (#pasttense) and readership. I have had the pleasure of working with some amazing brands, which include: GUESS, Estee Lauder, Cosmopolitan Bride, Peugeot, Westfield, Cotton On, Target, The Atlantic Group, Dr. Lewinn’s, Model Co., Nancy Ganz, Chambord, LENZO, Australia Post, Dove and many more.

My blog also led me in the direction of Business Chicks, where I worked as the Fashion and Beauty Editor for Latte magazine. What an incredible team they were! My writing has been published in several leading Australian publications, including: Marie Clare, Women’s Health, InStyle, Mother & Baby and Who magazine. I have to pinch myself sometimes when I look back at where I started - the self-doubt, worrying if anyone would ever be interested in what I have to say?! Who am I kidding, I still have those concerns. And it’s rather ironic, really… says she who’s created a new blog and started a second podcast, lol.

In 2020 (right at the peak of a global pandemic!) I launched my first podcast, All That Triggers, with my beautiful friend, Zoe Karlis. What a hectic few years it has been, but it was my saving grace - as was she. This podcast was created with the intention of shedding more light on infertility and the IVF process. We had both experienced infertility it-sues over the years and reluctantly went down the IVF path. We found this to be an incredibly challenging and lonely experience, and felt the community needed a space that was both supportive and informative. Of course, much like our friendship IRL, it was laced with laughter, some foul language and a lot of love! We have recorded two seasons and look forward to getting back into again shortly.

If you were a previous SISJ reader/follower, welcome back! If you are new to this space, YO. I’m truly excited to see where these new ventures take me!
