If you have managed to navigate yourself across to this specific page, the chances are you probably already know who I am - my name as a bare minimum, anyway. Professional etiquette would push me towards a conventional self-introduction, but there’s a dedicated tab for that above (and I get awkward talking about myself). Podcasting as a medium works in tandem with my personality - shy, but opinionated. It’s a time-efficient form of communication and one that I believe genuinely connects the creator with the listener, through the art of storytelling. 

A Girl Like You - By Sarah Jane is about how we as individuals work through life altering experiences with a recovery oriented approach. It will include candid conversations that are vulnerable and judgement-free. I want this podcast and its extensions online to be a safe space to elevate my own and other’s struggles - sharing in beautiful stories of survival, strength and resilience. My hope is that these episodes and blog articles will shed some light on previously censored topics that will provide listeners with resources, knowledge and a feeling of collective comfort. As we learn from our shared or contrasting experiences and responses, I hope it can also be a source of encouragement for the greatest comeback! Finding the ultimate freedom of the heart and mind, by turning pain into power. 

Much like the Japanese art of Kintsugi, putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold, my hope is that by embracing our trauma, imperfections and pain, we can create an even stronger and more beautiful design - together. Every beautiful thing is in part damaged, whether this is a result of great loss, heartbreak, separation, abuse or trauma. In many ways, Kintsugi is a metaphor for overcoming our struggles as we recover and heal. I believe an important ingredient for meaningful growth is also about accepting the responsibility to reconcile our discomfort, and wearing our scars with pride. The structure of our character comprises of the good, the bad and the ugly.

I ask that you listen with an open mind and a gentle heart. I aim to produce content that is balanced with entertainment, enlightenment and sustenance for self-reflection and growth.
