Spending time with Sally
Sally Goodall - the goodest one of all! Wow, I’m a bit rusty in the copywriting department. I’ll try harder next time.
Where do I even begin?! Sally is one of those people - you know… the beautiful, talented, kind and gentle type - how totally selfish of her! She is one of those people who leave a significant impact on your soul and on your energy, after just moments of being in her presence. Not only do you leave with some stunning images that will last a lifetime, you walk away from her feeling lighter, happier and richer for having met her. Truly.
I had the privilege of working with Sally last year down at Cape Schank on the Mornington Peninsula, on a beautiful mother-daughter shoot. It was a stinking hot day, a long drive down and I was nervous (hello, she’s a big deal). Immediately, I was welcomed by the most beautiful smile you’ve ever seen, a cute Kiwi accent and laughter - I got lost of course and there was no reception! The three of us made our way down to the stunning cliff tops at sunset, overlooking the bay.
What was so different to any other shoot i’ve ever done, was it begun from the moment we arrived. There were no set shots or cliche posing, and it was a foreign combination of feeling totally alone on our adventure through the cliffs, and an overwhelming sense of calm guidance at the same time. I loved her documentation style of photography, it felt so natural and it allowed us to really capture the love and bond shared between Mia and I.

Sally understands that every business, brand and person are widely unique. Arguably, as should any professional in this industry. But what differentiates Sal, I believe, is what she feels and sees beyond her focus. She sees you, your story and the deeper meaning of what the shoot is all about. This is why she will always be guided by you and at your pace. Her ability to put you at ease and feel relaxed is something else and I thank her so much for that. It gave us the opportunity to just be ourselves and to genuinely enjoy the experience. The ridiculously amazing photos we received were just a bonus!
For me personally, there are three key components to what divides a good photographer, to an exceptional photographer (she is the latter, duh). There are the photos themselves (light, composition, angles), post-production (presets, filters, editing), and then there is the relationship between yourself and the photographer. This is where she shines like no other! Whether it’s a business shoot or a personal shoot, all of her images so beautifully encapsulate distinctive personality and brand identity. You are not left wondering what a particular shoot represents, you can see it and you can feel it, so clearly.
Sal, you are so special. I know this post reads with some bunny boiler-esque undertones, but I have so much admiration for you and what you do. I am so glad we have crossed paths and stayed in touch, I love our cheeky DM exchanges! I will cherish these images forever and ever. Thank you.
